BREADCRUMB

Sharing Our Stories

Hear from our learning community who share their thoughts on leading, learning and playing at Chinook Middle School.

James Peterson, Principal

Our vision is that all Chinook students, families and staff will have equitable access and opportunities to feel a sense of belonging, agency, joy and success.

Malinda Elien, BSD Parent and BSF Trustee

My daughter's favorite part of 8th grade science was the opportunity to learn how to use computer modeling to explore magnetism, including understanding conditional variables. The Bellevue Schools Foundation has been the key funding partner allowing Bellevue to offer relevant learning opportunities like these to every one of our students, ensuring they have the educational foundations to succeed in whatever they do.

Julie Metz, Teacher

I love coming to work! When I walk in the door, I feel like I’m in the right place. From the office staff to our students, this community has supported me and continues to challenge me to do the hard work as we reach for excellence. I especially appreciate the collaboration with my peers and students as we prioritize hearing from and valuing every voice.

Meagan Mangum, Teacher

I am one of the Bellevue School District’s many National Board Certified Teachers. The process is pretty complicated and expensive, but it is one of very few options for a teacher to maintain their certification in Washington. I very much appreciate the financial support from the Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF) throughout the certification process. This is part of the reason why the BSD is able to attract and retain so many highly qualified educators.

Anna McCartney, Teacher

I love our school's commitment to building a community of kindness and caring. Chinook is a place where everyone belongs!

Debbie Kalpakidis, PTSA President

The greatest act of advocacy is that which is done in the service of our children. At Chinook, we strive to create an environment that allows our students to thrive academically and socially. Our community of parents, educators and staff work hard to ensure our students feel safe, included and seen while providing not only a well-rounded education, but a strong foundation for their future.
