Greetings Chinook Middle School Community,
This week is Staff Appreciation Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible people who make Chinook such a special place. Every day, our staff go above and beyond—not just teaching content, but building connections, offering support, and creating an environment where students feel seen and valued.
Chinook is a great school because of its people. I’m proud to work alongside such a dedicated team, and I hope you’ll join me in celebrating and thanking them this week. Their work makes a difference every single day!
Best regards,
James Peterson
Lost and Found Overflowing
Our lost and found in the commons is overflowing with items. Coats, sweatshirts and waterbottles are the bulk. We are reminding students to look for their belongings and we also encourage parents to take an inventory at home for missing items. Students need to keep belongings in a locker. Lockers may be requested through the main office.

SchoolPool
Our school is one of 22 schools participating in Bellevue SchoolPool’s Walk, Bike & Roll to School campaign during the week of May 5-9!
Bellevue SchoolPool is a program that encourages families and students to explore sustainable transportation options for their commute to and from school and alleviate congestion at drop-off and pickup times and locations. During the campaign, students and families are encouraged to walk, bike, carpool or take the bus to and/or from school.
This spring, the campaign is centered around National Bike & Roll to School Day on Wednesday, May 7, but SchoolPool encourages students to try a new way to school any time during week!
SchoolPool also provides students with a scavenger hunt flyer and small, fun items for all students.
For resources including how to set up a bike train or walking school bus and carpooling tips, visit www.BellevueSchoolPool.org and look under “Resources for Students and Families.”

Bellevue’s human services support viable and thriving communities by funding services, primarily for low and moderate-income people. Services address the most significant gaps and disparities for Bellevue residents, such as food security, homelessness and health services. Funding supports marginalized community members including youth, older adults and people with disabilities.
Calling all 7th Grade Future Leaders!
We are looking for current 7th graders to be our WEB Leaders for next year.
What is WEB?
WEB is a middle school transition program that welcomes 6th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. WEB, an acronym for Where Everybody Belongs, is built on the belief that students want to and can help other students succeed. The WEB middle school transition program trains members of the 8th grade class to be WEB Leaders; as positive role models, WEB Leaders are motivators, leaders and teachers who guide 6th graders to discover what it takes to be successful in middle school. Learn more.
WEB Leaders are:
- Dedicated to making Chinook a better place
- Willing to lead others and be a positive role model
- Enthusiastic and willing to take risks
- Hoping to make a positive impact on next year’s 6th graders
