Chinook Newsletter: May 4, 2026
Dear Chinook Community,
This week is Staff Appreciation Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible people who make Chinook such a special place. Every day, our staff go above and beyond, not just teaching content, but building connections, offering support, and creating an environment where students feel seen and valued.
Chinook is a great school because of its people. I’m proud to work alongside such a dedicated team, and I hope you’ll join me in celebrating and thanking them this week. Their work makes a difference every single day!
Sincerely,
James Peterson (Principal)

High School and Beyond Plans in SchoolLinks
Washington state and the Bellevue School District have adopted SchooLinks as the universal solution to fulfill the statewide High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) requirements for all secondary students.
BSD students in grades 6-11 have been working on their annual High School and Beyond plan in SchooLinks all year. Students in grades 8-11 will be submitting their 25-26 HSBP in the SchooLinks platform this spring.
Families will receive an email and possibly a text notification after students submit their plans this spring. Families are encouraged to visit their SchooLinks accounts to review their student’s plan. Clicking the approval button for the plan is optional.
Visit the SchooLinks webpage on the district website for guardian account login instructions.

In Case You Missed It
Math Pathways for Rising 8th Graders
As part of planning for the 2026–27 school year, we are expanding middle school math pathways to better reflect that students learn and develop at different rates. Students entering 8th grade will have multiple math options, including Algebra 1, Algebra 1 with additional support, and a new Math 8 course aligned to grade-level standards.
Families of current 7th grade students currently enrolled in an IMT2 Math Class received a detailed message outlining these options, including next steps and a short video students viewed in math class. We encourage those families to review that information and reach out to their school counselor with any questions as they consider what pathway best supports their student’s learning and confidence.
Walk & Roll to School Week, May 4-8

Walk & Roll to School Day is an annual event that involves communities from across the country walking and rolling to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. The event was established as “International” in 2000, when Canada and the U.K. joined the U.S. to celebrate. In 2006, world-wide interest led the International Walk to School Committee to establish International Walk to School Month, where countries choose a day or week in May (or use the entire month!) to promote walking to school.
